Valentine's Day Card - Two Turtles, So Grateful for You Flaunt it Friday!

Welcome to another week of Flaunt it Fridays challenge!!! I was so excited because all of us on the Design Team were allowed to help choose the cuts we will use and this week it was my turn for the cut choice, so of course I had to choose my favorite little turtle from Create a Critter. What is not to love about that turtle anyway! Although my second favorite current cut is the flower vase from Country Life. Anyway....here is my project.

I decided to make a Valentine's Day Card and to make a couple of cute turtles in love. I cut these turtles at 2 inches and if you notice on my Gypsy I changed the turtle shell. I actually saw this a long time ago on a post that Cristina from Crafting with Cristina made and I got the idea for the hearts from her. I am not sure if I did mine exactly like hers but I really love it. Especially for some Valentine's Turtles. For the female I used white pearls in the hearts and added the flower to her head. For the male I used black pearls and then made a top hat for him, actually using the top hat that belongs to the turkey on Create a Critter. I added red bling to his hat and red bling to her cheeks. The result is a really super cute loving turtle couple.

This card is a 5x7 card, and that bottom little strip of red paper is velvet paper. I adhered the turtle bodies straight down flat to the card, but I used pop dots behind each of their heads and then over lapped them as I did, so their two heads are sticking up out of the card. I really like how that looks! I also went around the turtles and put some black stitching all around their body and the hearts on the shell to accent it more. To match that I decided to add stitching around the white mat and the sentiment mat.

That sentiment is from Scrappy Moms and I thought it was so cute to add to this card. I also really love the ribbon with all the interlocking hearts, it matches so nicely and really stands out. The little hearts added on were from the inside of their shells!

I hope you have enjoyed my project for this week's Flaunt it Fridays and I do hope you will hop on over there and partake in the challenge too!

How did you make the hearts on the shell instead of the circles that are normally on it?

Cheryl,

I used my Gypsy to do the hearts on the shell. What I did was pull in the turtle layers, the base layer, the body with the face cut outs and then the shell. Then I copied the shell so there was two...one for the solid color and one to put the heart cut outs in. SO essentially I skipped the whole layer that had the circle cut outs. Then I took one of my shell layers and I brought in some hearts from George and made them two different sizes, and then started placing them on the shell in a pattern. Some I had to use the angle feature to angle them. Then I grouped the shell and all the hearts together and then welded it...so this way it cuts it all that way. It sounds complicated but honestly only took a couple of minutes.

The nice thing is you can save the file and when I want to make this turtle again, I can change the size easily. Once it is grouped and welded and I click on it, it is all just 1 piece and so if I change it from 4 to 5 inches, it automatically changes the size of it without having to do all those steps again.

Do you have a Gypsy?

Feel free to email me anytime too, I can answer those faster than blog comments cause I can do those from my phone!
