My Pink Stamper Design Team Challenge - Turtle Key Chain

This adorable little Modge Podged Key Chain is my entry for the My Pink Stamper 2011 Design Team Call. I am so super excited that Robyn is allowing all of us to try out for 2 spots on her team. I would be totally flattered and more than excited if my little creation is chosen.

The challenge was to make something using your favorite cartridge, so I chose my favorite cartridge and cut...and also to use Robyn's favorite colors, brown, green and pink!!!

So...how I made this turtle:

I cut the turtle from Create a Critter at 2 inches. I cut the base layer in brown paper 6 times. Then I cut the base layer in pink 1 time. I cut the layer 1, one time in pink and then the layer 2, three times in the green. I skipped layer 4. I put a pink layer base first, then the 6 browns, then the top pink layer that has the face cut out. I then put two green shells on the front and one on the back. This makes it nice and thick for a key chain.

I adhered all layers together using my zig two way glue pen. It works great for this. After all the layers were together I took the Zig and went around all the edges with the glue, just to be sure that the layers would not try to separate when I was using the Modge Podge.

The sentiment came from My Pink Stamper, Love-alicious set which is so cute! I stamped it using Evergreen colorbox ink and then used clear embossing powder and my heat gun to emboss it. Then I matted it on the brown paper and adhered that to the shell.

To decorate the shell I used tiny little hearts made using a Fiskars quarter inch punch. They worked out great for this. The hole for the key ring to fit through was made using a normal hole punch, but I punched one hole at a time while doing each layer.

The eyes were covered with the green bling and then I added some also to the feet and tail. The flower was made using two small flower punches I have and then a bling added to the center. I used a black Micron pen to add the eye lashes and then a green metallic gelly roll pen to add the bright green stitching.

I then layered Modge Podge on, doing one half at a time, then letting it dry and working on the other half. I made sure to get all edges really well and did a couple of layers. The result is a shiny, glossy, strong key chain that will be water proof and hold up. People can use these on their keys or just to hang from a purse or bag as a little decoration! I really love to use my Cricut and Crafting skills to make things other than just cards sometimes, and this is a new favorite! The possibilities are endless with all the cartridges as to how many key chains I could make!

It takes about an hour to make one of these little guys, so worth the time invested!

I hope that Robyn likes my project as well as all my readers!

This is so original! I haven't seen a key chain made from a Cricut cut before. I am so making one of these (but I will be sure to give you the credit for the ingenious idea)!!!
